While I was in Taos, a good friend of mine from here came down to visit. She bought me a ticket for the John Trudell concert out at KTAO. I haven't seen him for almost ten years, so I jumped at the chance. If you don't know, he was an AIM activist in the 70's. He was part of the takeover of Alcatraz and Wounded Knee. While protesting Leonard Peltier's false imprisonment on the steps of the Supreme Court, someone was setting his home on fire. He lost his wife, his children, and his mother-in-law. We all believe it was the Federal Bureau of Intimidation. Anyway, his friend threw him in his car and they drove around aimlessly after the funerals. Tina, his wife, always encouraged him to write, so one day while driving around, he pulled out a notepad and started channeling all of his hurt and anger into poetry. He now performs it to music, and Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne are two of his biggest supporters. Brown even produced one of his albums. Well, right now he wants the US to provide free insurance to all women and children in the US....He is amazing, or as my friend Keena says, "He is beautiful."
