Welcome to my on-line Copper Gallery

Recycled Copper Art This is something brand new to me, and I only have one piece completed. I am about to start on my second, and I can't wait.

My husband rescued this piece of copper for me from the trash and brought it home. He thought that maybe I could do something with it artistically. I was just starting out, so I thought maybe I could. I was insecure about everything I was doing at the time, so I just wasn't sure what to do with it.

At the time three friends across the country kept telling me to paint sunflowers, because that would sell. I have only sold one sunflower painting to date, but I was so insecure about my artwork that I did it on the copper. I hated it! Everytime I looked at it, I was disgusted with myself, because I felt like I sold out instead of staying true to myself. Too many times have I done this in my life, and after looking at this piece of copper for three years, I decided to do something about it. As you can see in the video on this page, I decided to destroy and recreate. Sometimes in order to break free, you have to dismantle what you've created, keep the good, and rebuild. That is exactly what I did with this copper, and I hope to do with other pieces.

I should have sanded all of the paint off of the copper before I started. I should have cleaned it with lemon juice before I started, but I didn't. I didn't do any "should", and I went outside without any preconcieved idea in my head, picked up some tools and began working.

I have one more thing to do for this piece and it is to create a copper hanger. I will be clearing it, so outside weather conditions will not affect it, but I will not clear the hanger. I will let nature patina this, which will be a nice compliment to the piece. When I am done, I will list a price.

I am hoping this is the start of something new, and I am calling them Sun Catchers, because it is amazing to look at this piece in varying degrees of sunlight and see it how it dances along the surface.

Learn all the rules, and then figure out which ones to break.
