Faces

I love painting faces. I love looking into them and seeing the emotions of that moment express themselves through their Soul. That is what I try to capture with the prayer that maybe we can see each other and respond to each other more compassionately. If you wish to see a larger image of the painting, just click on the thumbnail.

I have placed the price for the original without the frame. All of my paintings, unless noted in the description, are done on Arches Paper. Arches Paper is the same paper that Degas used for his ballet dancers. It has been made the same way since 1492, and it is made to the highest of qualities. If you decide you wish to purchase an original, please e-mail me directly at istazi@reenchantedearth.com, and I will send you pictures of how it is framed.

Ghost

Ghost Dancing With The Moon - I did this painting last year at this time. This is of a Ghost Dancer taking part at my adopted Uncle's Sun Dance on the Pine Ridge Reservation. At least it is a person I imagined. My Uncle had all of the Sun Dancer's come out at night and Ghost Dance with the Full Moon...it was an amazing experience.

Finding Buddha- This image of Buddha haunted me for awhile. I kept seeing him in my dreams, but when I tried to paint Him, I miserably failed. One day I really focused on surrendering and I found Buddha within this painting. The Buddhist Chant for Compassion and the famous Om sounds are written within the painting. The original is $275.

Neda: Where Is My Vote?

Neda: Where Is My Vote? - This was a very emotional painting for me to do. I have several artist friends in Tehran, one of whom I feel quite close to. She and I have gone through many of the same things, and we are both artists. We connected one day through Yahoo 360, and we have been talking ever since. We have talked about doing an art show together called "Bridging The Gap", because we were bridging the gap between our two countries. Then the election in Iran happened, and everything chaned. I lived in fear those first few weeks, because I never saw her on-line. She did not take down her green banner from her website, which the Revolutionary Guard told everyone to do or face imprisonment. Then I saw Neda with millions of others around the world die such a tragic death...and then I saw videos of many more. I went up to my studio and began painting. The rose represents the hope they all felt. The hands held in a heart shape is something I saw a lot in the pictures out of Tehran, and I thought it was a beautiful symbol of peace. The green hands represent the opposition movement, and the red represents all of the people that died. On one hand Neda is written in both versions of Farsi and on the other it says, "Where Is My Vote?" I dedicate this painting to all of my friends over there...hoping we can one day do our show together. This painting is not for sale.

Prayer

Prayer For Peaceful Coexistance - This war has created so much sorrow in two countries. I watched the face of this woman on TV. She is an Iraqi elder, and she was kneeling on the ground waiting for the soldiers to finish searching her home. I thought that is was a sad thing to see for both sides, for all sides in this conflict, and I began praying for peaceful coexistance as I painted her face. The original unframed is $275 and is on 12X16 Arches Paper. It is mixed media.

Seeing Into The Future Thumbnail
Just click on the thumbnail to see a larger image
Looking Into The Future - She was a Lakota woman at the time that they were being forced to give up their way of life and move onto the reservations. Some people on Pine Ridge now call them concentration camps...When I look at her, I see this look of fear, concern, defeat, but also hope for the future generations. I felt like she was trying to see into the future what may come for her People. The original is 14X20 and is $425.

Magda: the Woman Who Knew The All Thumbnail

There are two stories of Mary Magdalen. I prefer the Gnostic version where she is empowered, a teacher, and an equal. This is Magda, and in Southern France, where my family is from, she is the Patron Saint of Vineyards and Gardens. The original unframed is $425, and it is mixed media on 14X20 Arches Paper.

This is a painting of Tonanzin who was the Aztec Goddess of Corn. When the Spaniards came to Mexico, they replaced her with Guadalupe. I have no idea if this is what she looked like, but this is how she shows herself to me in my dreams. I plant corn every year, and I ask for her blessing. The original unframed is $425 and is on 14X20 Arches Paper. This is mixed media.

Sitting Bull has visited my paintings four times now, and this one seems the closest to what He wanted me to paint. When I look at this painting, I see the sadness he felt at surrendering his way of life, but I also see the pride and strength of His Spirit. The original is 14X20, and is $425.
