Other Wild Ones
Mamasita - I used to live up the hill from here, and there was a ravine in the back of the property filled with Pines and oak brush. I went back there often to meditate, and one day while meditating, a hummingbird started chirping wildly in my face. I opened my eyes just in time to catch a glimpse of a mountain lion heading right for me on the trail. All I had time to do before we came face to face was clear my throat to alert her to my presence. The way the wind was blowing, she didn't get a whiff of me. Right as I cleared my throat, we came face to face. I quickly looked down at the ground, and instead of feeling fear, I felt an immense sense of peace wash over me. Instead of eating me, she circled behind me. I was sure she would attack, but still within that peaceful place, she didn't. She took off. Often while walking along the creek, I would see her following me off in the distance. She watched me as I watched her at a healthy distance. Her presence was a blessing I will always be grateful for. This is a painting of her carrying her baby that I imagined her to have. I call this painting Mamasita and the original sells for $775. This is a painting I did of a baby deer. There are so many this year, and they are so wonderful to watch. There is this one baby that I saw every morning, and he was always on the wrong side of the fence; the car side. His mother is on the other side frantic about him getting back through. One day he stood there looking at me with his chin sticking out as if to say, "I'm a big boy now," and he didn't run away. The original sells for $250.
