This is a painting that has been in the works for years....mainly in my subconscious. I have been doing drawings of every aspect of it for years in separate drawings. One night I had a dream where they all came together in one. When I started this painting, I had a completely different idea of how it would look. I never expected a green background or the Earth to be hidden in the blue/white path... I call it, "Calling Back The Sacred." For me this has a lot of meanings. I think one that I can share is this. So much has been made about the Mayan Calendar ending. I was lucky enough to talk with a Mayan elder once, and he laughed about it. He said, "All calendars must come to en end. You have one that comes to an end each year. What is the big deal?" Another elder said to me, "Why is it everyone in this world is always focusing upon death, endings and destruction when they fear it so? Don't you all know that if you keep those thoughts in your mind you are working towards creating it? Why not focus on this moment and the beauty you can create in this moment?" So I offer these thoughts to you as we enter into 2012. Personally, I am excited about it. I feel a lot of hope and happiness about it. These images are sacred to me, and I simply wish to share them. Fall Equinox - this is a painting I did after a vist to Mesa Verde. I was at the Farview Pueblo when I saw this hand reaching out to me offering me corn seeds...the seeds of life. As I painted this a very long story came in with it, which will be in my book soon I hope. This is an oil pastel painting on 18X24 piece of Arches Paper, and it is $500.

I call this Winter Solstice. This was inspired by Sun Temple. I went there last year, and I discovered three petroglyphs that are in this painting. According to the guides and archaeologists, they never saw them before. Sun Temple was built to create a winter solstice marker within Cliff Palace since there were no natural markers in that area. They built a tower that was over 14 feet high and cast a shadow through a window in one of the buildings of Cliff Palace, which is quite a distance away down in the canyon that Sun Temple sits above. It is all amazing. At the southern corner of the Temple, there is a Shrine. Bill and I went there this Solstice to give thanks for the return of the sun and pray for a good year of moisture to come. This painting reflects that journey. This is acrylic on 11X14 clayboard, and the sale price is $275.

Bill and I often go to Arches National Park outside of Moab, UT. It is a beautiful place, and as you drive up the hill, you might see this rock formation. They stand there overseeing all who enter, and I feel as if they are the Guardian Spirits of the land there. This is an oil pastel and acrylic painting on Arches Paper, and it is $275.

This is called Tree Hugger. It simply is about my love for trees....I also received a teaching about trees....their branches are raised to the sky in gratitude, their branches reach deep into the Earth, and the trunk of the tree remains balanced between the two. This is a painting that I did of Blue Woman. Blue Woman is a Spirit that protects a special place within the Big Dipper. When we die, she decides if we learned our lessons and can move on. If she decides that we didn't, she sends us back to try again. If she allows us to move on, we pass through this place within the Big Dipper, travel along the Milky Way to a place in the Southwest skies. This is a 12X16 oil pastel and acrylic painting on Arches Paper, and it is for sale for $275.

The Corn Goddess is sacred in these parts. She is an integral part of communities past and present. I always make an offering to her at the beginning and end of growing season. She brought life to the Anasazi...sustained them. That is all that I feel comfortable saying here...except, she is about planting those seeds of your dreams deep into the soil where the Earth Mother will begin to nurture them. However, you must water and feed them as well for them to sprout above the Earth and become part of this life. This is an oil pastel and acrylic painting on 12X16 Arches Paper and sells for $275.

A Prayer For Balance; A Prayer For Peace - The idea for this painting came to me while I was simply doodling. I was drawing abstract designs when she suddenly came through. It shocked me. As a person who has been adopted into the Lakota Tribe I thought I would never paint this because of the Pipe...because it was lit. However, whenever I would start to draw something else, she would come through. There are a number of elements in this painting that will speak to many people. I watch the news and every night I cry at what I see...the fires in Australia, the Polar Bears losing their habitat, children vanishing or worse, how we treat one another, and how we treat our world. It is time to dream something much better than this in...it is time to think of "We" instead of the "I" and bring balance and peace back to this place we call home. Spirit Eyes - This is a painting I did that was purely emotional. I did this painting for the Telluride AIDS Benefit, and I kept thinking about one friend of mine that past away from AIDS. He was so strong and unwavering in his belief that Spirit was waiting on the other side for him....This painting sold.

Chaco's Heart - There is an area in Chaco Canyon where the adobe walls of a long ago home flow like a shawl worn by a loving Spirit. I was always taught that there are Spirits that protect certain areas within our world...they watch over them, and they are often the places that we become drawn to and want to protect as well. When I saw how these adobe walls flowed, I felt and saw this loving, female Spirit wrapping her arms around the entire canyon. This is mixed media, oil pastel and acrylic on Arches Paper. Maka Ina - This is Lakota for Mother Earth. I received this image the day after my cat died and I found out my friends lost their homes in the California Wildfires this past fall. I just hurt, and I pulled out my sketchpad, and she slowly evolved. With each stroke, I felt supported and better....This is a 22X30 on Arches Paper. Wounded Knee to Baghdad - The Lakota say that when we pass away, Blue Woman is standing at the Big Dipper. She decides if we can pass through or if we have to come back and live another life. If we pass through, the Ancient Ones travel on the Milky Way to some location over the Southwest. Living in the Southwest and seeing the Milky Way ever night overhead, I always think of them on their journey. One night I saw this image, and was asked, "When will we make a different choice?" Unframed is $900 and it is mixed media on 22X30 Arches Paper.

This is a painting I did throughout the spring and the first part of July while watching my flowers begin to blossom...the hummers and butterflies fluttering around my special garden. They say that there is a garden fairy in every garden, and I imagined her surrounded within all of the flowers peering out to see if we are really stopping to smell the roses so to speak. Goddess of the Dreaming Cave - There is an old story about a Spirit that protects the Dreaming Cave. It holds all of the dreams that will create a better world and take us into the Fifth World of Peace. She protects it to make sure that when we go within the cave to bring one of those dreams to life, that we are doing it for the good of all and not just ourselves. This is an acrylic painting on a 16X20 canvas, which is mounted on board and is framed. This painting sold.

I lost a child when I was 3 and a half months pregnant. I was never able to have children again. As I watch some of my friends lose their children, I kept dreaming of this Spirit...the Mother of Heart...She is with us all as we suffer the loss of loved ones trying to support us and help us during this difficult time...She is a great and loving comfort, yet faceless and She belongs to us all...not just humans....The original is a mixed media piece on 16X20 canvas and is $450.

Anasazi Series
These are the first in a number of paintings that I hope to do that are inspired by the local Anasazi Pueblos.
Dreaming A New Dream - I created this painting after going to an Anasazi Pueblo. I was watching the news the day after, and was so depressed by everything that I saw. I remember what my Hopi friend told me about climbing the ladder into the 5th world of peace. I kept seeing this ladder going into the sky and thinking, "It is time to dream a new dream." This won three first place awards.

And The Sacred Fire Still Burns - Whenever I go to an Anasazi Pueblo, I can still feel the Sacred Fires that were once burned there...all of the prayers that were once uttered...the dancing, the drumming. They are still alive to me, so I never call them ruins. To me they are Pueblos that were left there for all of us to reconnect with the Powers That Be.
